Where is the textile produced?

SOMELOS MISSION SUSTAINABLE is changing the way textiles are made by proving possible to produce appealing fabrics, with high quality standards in ways that are non toxic, ethical and sustainable.

The Somelos Group a pioneer model in corporate social responsibility in Portugal, with over 60 years of history and heritage, remains committed to strong social, environmental and cultural responsibility principles.

Somelos has done much insofar, but a lot remains still to be done in terms of sustainability.

All fabrics from Somelos are 100% produced at their mill in Portugal, where production processes are closely monitored and where reduced water consumption and energy saving processes are enforced in place.

At Somelos Group they ensure that all fabrics are produced according to strict environmental standards and certifications.

GOTS (The Global Organic Textile Standard)

The certification is a guarantee that the textile is produced environmentally correct, as well as socially responsible. GOTS requires that a minimum of 70 percent of the fabric consists of certified organic fibers, and that all chemicals such as dyes meet the special environmental requirements.

BCI (The Better Cotton Initiative)

The BCI-program works towards establishing global principles and criteria for cotton growers and retailers. The BCI certification standard focuses on pesticide reduction and water consumption.

Oeko-TexStandard 100

The International Oeko-Tex Association is an independent certification system for textiles, which is the world's leading health label. The certification sets requirements for the content of chemical substances that are harmful to the consumer's health.

Reach

The REACH Regulation was introduced by the EU in 2007. The purpose is to improve the protection of people and the environment against the risks posed by chemicals. REACH is responsible for the registration, evaluation, approval and restriction of chemicals

Responsible Production

The Jacket Maker

All our jackets are produced in a small family-owned factory, located north of Porto in Portugal.

For the past 30 years, the factory has specialized in shirt and jacket manufacturing, based on the principles of classic tailoring combined with modern technology.

We visit the factory twice a year, where Domingos, the day-to-day manager, welcomes us and personally introduces us to all new employees. The factory has a large local commitment, which also means that most employees grew up in the local community and often still live there.
